Day 2: Walking in the Divine Directive

Scripture:

“And Joshua said to the priests, ‘Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on ahead of the people.’ So they took it up and went ahead of them. And the Lord said to Joshua, ‘Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses.’”

– Joshua 3:6–7 (NIV)

Devotional Thought:

There’s a moment in every fast, in every obedient journey, where God shifts from instruction to movement. In Joshua 3, we see that shift. God’s people are not just preparing anymore—they are now walking. Joshua receives the divine directive and passes it on: “Take up the Ark and go ahead.” This moment reveals something profound—God doesn’t move behind us, He goes before us, and He asks us to follow in faith.

When you’re fasting, you’re doing more than abstaining from food—you’re realigning your spirit to walk in step with God. You’re saying, “Lord, I will not move without You.” And just like the priests carried the Ark of the Covenant, you carry His presence into your daily life.

This is not a walk led by feelings—it’s a walk anchored in faith. Fasting silences the noise so we can hear the next step. God isn’t waiting to see if you’re strong enough—He’s waiting for your obedience to the next step He’s speaking.

When you fast, you’re preparing to go ahead of what feels familiar, and into what’s promised. And just like God told Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you,” know this: your obedience in the quiet places is what Heaven responds to in public. God honors what you do when no one else sees.

Reflection:

  • Am I willing to walk even if I don’t have all the details yet?

  • Is there a place where God has spoken, but I’ve hesitated to step?

  • What divine directive have I sensed during this fast, and am I moving with it?

Prayer:

Father, I thank You for Your presence that goes before me. As I fast, I surrender my pace and posture to You. Teach me to walk in obedience, not by sight, but by Your Word. Like Joshua, help me to hear Your directive and move when You say move. I trust that You are exalting what You’ve placed in me—not for my glory, but so others may see You are with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Today’s Fast Focus:

Let your walk today reflect trust without knowing—go for a walk outside, symbolically carrying God’s presence, and speak aloud one thing you trust Him to lead you through.
