“From Valley to Mountaintop: The Fruit Was Never Wasted”

Scripture:

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

—Psalm 23:4 (ESV)

Devotion:

There are seasons in life when the valley feels like our only scenery—dark, stretching long, and often painful. Maybe it’s grief, betrayal, uncertainty, or heartbreak. The valley isn’t where we wanted to be, but it’s where God often meets us most intimately.

As women of faith, we’re not exempt from valleys. But God doesn’t waste one single step we take in them.

The valley teaches us dependence. It humbles us. It presses us—but it also plants us. Seeds of patience, endurance, surrender, and deep faith are buried in the valley soil. Though we may not see growth right away, fruit begins to form quietly, rooted in trust.

And then comes the mountaintop—the place of perspective. As we rise out of the valley, we look back and realize we’re not the same women who entered it. We can finally see the fruits we couldn’t while we were still walking through. Peace. Strength. A softened heart. Boldness. Wisdom.

From the mountaintop, you may realize:

The valley was not the end—it was the beginning of your fruit-bearing season.

God doesn’t rush us through our valleys. But He always walks with us through them. And when He brings us out, He lets us see clearly how He never left us. The mountaintop isn’t just about the view—it’s about seeing what grew behind you.

Reflection Question:

What fruit do you see now that you didn’t recognize while you were in your valley?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for never leaving me in the valley. Thank You for every tear, every prayer, every whisper that You turned into growth. Help me to see with spiritual eyes the fruit You’ve cultivated in me. As I stand on this mountaintop, remind me that every valley was part of Your perfect plan. I trust You with the valleys yet to come, knowing the harvest is always worth the journey. In Jesus’ name, amen.
