Devotional: The Process of Being Chosen
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit…..fruit that will last. John 15:16 (NIV)
There is a unique and powerful process that takes place in the lives of those whom God chooses. Being chosen is not about status or personal merit; it is about surrendering to the refining work of God. When He calls someone, He also prepares them, often through seasons of waiting, testing, and transformation. Throughout Scripture, we see how God cultivates character, faith, and purpose in those He chooses.
The Process of Being Chosen: Cultivation and Refinement
1. A Season of Preparation
Moses (Exodus 3-4)
Before Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, he spent 40 years in the wilderness tending sheep. He was chosen by God, but he needed time in solitude to develop humility and reliance on the Lord. Often, when we are chosen, God first prepares us in hidden places, stripping away self-sufficiency and building our trust in Him.
2. A Season of Testing:
Joseph (Genesis 37-50)
Joseph had a prophetic dream of his future, yet his path to fulfillment was filled with betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment. God allowed these trials to shape him, teaching him wisdom, patience, and integrity. Those who are chosen often endure trials that refine their character and prepare them for their calling.
3. A Season of Waiting:
David (1 Samuel 16-2 Samuel 5)
David was anointed as king while still a shepherd boy, yet he did not take the throne immediately. He spent years serving under Saul and running for his life before stepping into his divine appointment. When we are chosen, waiting is often part of the process, teaching us endurance and complete dependence on Gods timing.
4. A Season of Surrender
Esther (Esther 4:14)
Esther was chosen to be queen, but her true calling was revealed when she risked her life to save her people. Being chosen by God often requires surrendering personal comfort and stepping into courageous obedience, trusting that He has placed us where we are for such a time as this.
5. A Season of Empowerment
The Disciples (Acts 1-2)
After walking with Jesus, the disciples had to wait for the Holy Spirit before stepping into their calling. When God chooses someone, He also empowers them through His Spirit to fulfill their purpose. The waiting may be difficult, but the power that comes is supernatural and life-changing.
In my own journey, embracing solitude allowed for deeper communion with God. In these quiet moments, I found clarity, strength, and an overwhelming sense of peace. God’s favor manifested not in the absence of challenges but in His unwavering presence through them.
Scripture Reflection:
Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
This practice of bringing every concern to God in prayer opened the door to His peace, guarding my heart and mind.
Embracing the Process
Being chosen by God is a journey, not just a destination. It requires preparation, testing, waiting, surrender, and empowerment. If you are in a season where you feel unseen, stretched, or uncertain, remember that God is cultivating something in you. Just as He did with Moses, Joseph, David, Esther, and the disciples, He is shaping you for the calling He has placed on your life.

Reflection Questions:
Which season do you feel you are In preparation
, testing, waiting, surrender, or empowerment?
How has God been cultivating your heart during this time?
What steps can you take today to trust His process and embrace being chosen?
Prayer:
Father, I thank You that I am chosen by You. Help me to trust the process You are leading me through, even when it is difficult or unclear. Shape me, refine me, and prepare me for the purpose You have set before me. Give me the strength to surrender and the faith to walk boldly in obedience. I trust Your timing and Your plans. In Jesus name, Amen.
